Ella is a small hill station, about four to five hour hour drive (200km)from Colombo on A 16 highway. You can reach Ella on Colombo-Badulla railway line too. It’s a destination quite popular among tourists, specially backpackers. Ella is said to be having purest air in Sri Lanka. Ella Railway Bridge, cool atmosphere, reasonably riced accommodation and pubs create a unique culture in Ella.
We left our hotel around 5.30 am by vehicle and reached the track leading to the Mini World’s End peak around 5.40am. It took us about 40 minutes to reach the peak through tea plantations. We met tea pluckers starting their workday, few tourists and a couple of friendly dogs along the way and two of the dogs followed us all the way to the peak.
Sun was rising behind us and there was mist gradually clearing with the sun rising. The light was already little harsh. From the peak I was on, this mountain range was clearly visible and I actually took a series of images for a panorama. However in post processing I thought this single image cropped into panorama format produced a quite pleasing image. Levels have been adjusted to reduce the misty blue cast.
